Tour Lif3

A Night out at Lil Uzi’s Do What I Want Tour…

With his larger than life persona and a SoundCloud account filled with songs that garner over a million listens, Lil Uzi Vert rolled into Augusta, Ga on a hot Tuesday afternoon. This being my first rap concert at the Jessye Norman Amphitheatre, I had no idea what to expect. After sitting in a line for an hour and a half with a lot of antsy teens (all ages show), I was ready to get inside the park and grab a cold beer.

After the DJ hyped the crowd up for thirty minutes or so, the opening acts finally came out; one of the two being the very talented Epic Record signee Kodie Shane. Around Ten o’ Clock, Uzi’s official DJ took the stage playing a few cuts then the lights went dark. Suddenly you hear the guitar and synths of Uzi’s “Do What I Want” and the five-foot-six ball of energy stormed on stage and proceeds to RIP IT UP! While most would call him a SoundCloud rapper or ‘mumble rapper,’ what I noticed while singing along with every song is that Uzi clearly has a list of hits. He performed his early songs like “7 AM” and “Super Saiyan” and he also did what he is most recently notable for–his famous stage dive to one of his biggest hits “Money Longer”. In a hip-hop climate where most would argue performers spend too much time hopping into the crowd and not enough time staying on the stage, I felt as if Uzi spread his time equally on and off stage. He even ran to the top of the amphitheater to appease the fans in the back and serve them with a look from the phenom that is Lil Uzi Vert. He closed the show with his biggest hit to date “XO Tour Lif3.” He performed an encore of “XO Tour Lif3” and quickly ran off the stage ‘extreme rockstar style’. While walking back to my car, his golf cart sped by. I dapped him up and told him, “I fuckin love your energy bruh,” and let him quickly scurry to his tour bus. If the Do What I Want Tour is stopping in your town… it is definitely worth your money.
